This is your guide to when and where you can view the Isle of Wight stage of the Tour of Britain between Cowes and Godshill – including Newport – on Sunday 11th September.
The tour of Britain reaches Porchfield at around 12:57. The cyclists will then continue through Whitehouse Cross and along Little Whitehouse Road and Rew Street before crossing the bridge over the Luck into Gurnard at approximately 13:06.
The competitors will then race along Worsley Road before shooting down past the Woodvale and continuing along the Esplanade to Cowes. It will be on the Esplanade that spectators will be able to see the 3rd sprint of the Isle of Wight stage at around 13:09.
Towards the end of the Esplanade, the tour will turn right up Castle Road before continuing along Baring Road then turning left at Place Road. The tour reaches Northwood at 13:15. The competitors will turn right into the Newport Road before going down Horsebridge Hill before reaching St Mary’s Junction at approximately 13:21.
The tour will then turn into Forest Road and then left into Gunville Road then making its way through Carisbrooke (13:25). Competitors will then race along Newport High Street as far as Coppins Bridge roundabout, which they are expected to reach at around 13:28.
From Coppins Bridge roundabout, the tour turns into St George’s Way and continues to Blackwater at approximately 13:36. The race then turns right towards Shanklin, passing through Rookley, reaching Godshill at approximately 13:40.
Where are the best vantage points to see the Tour of Britain around Newport and Cowes?
The prime spot to view the race in Cowes will be along the Esplanade, where an exciting sprint section will be held.
Those wanting to get close to the action in Newport can see the competitors racing through Carisbrooke High Street. The Mall Georgian architecture of the Mall will also be the perfect vantage point to watch the competitors jostling for position, as would Newport High Street in the centre of town.
The cyclists will make a wide circuit of Coppins Bridge roundabout, which spectators can watch from the car park above. For those wanting to see the race out of town, Rookley Green would be a great spot.
Timings may vary depending on race pace. Spectators should allow plenty of time to travel and park.
