Despite the week’s poor weather, 39 members teed off for Westridge Golf Club’s British Lung Foundation Trophy on Sunday (14th September).
Although the breeze picked up during the round, the rain stayed away, allowing reigning champion Mark Royl to rise to the top in the Scratch Competition. He carded a fine 70 to win by 5 shots. Helen Whittaker, 1 of 3 players tied on 75, took 2nd place, with Kim Meguyer 3rd and Co-Club Captain Zane Cohen 4th.
Royl’s 70 translated to a level-par net 64, good enough for 3rd place in the Handicap Competition, but he was unable to prevent Jeffrey Foster from clinching his first BLF Trophy with an impressive 2-under-par 62. Lorraine Swallow finished runner-up with a net 63 in a contest that saw the top 12 separated by just 5 shots.
