Ventnor clinched their fourth win of the season with an excellent 3 wicket success at Tichborne Park in Division 1 of the British Gas Southern Premier League on Saturday.

In a tense finish, Premier League debutant Dan Russell struck a 6 and 2 boundaries in an unbeaten knock of 18 to see his side home after Toby Corbin (45), Neil Westhorpe (35), Jamie Miller (39), Rob Snell (33) and Schaughn van Greunen (22) had laid the foundations.

The victory gave the Islanders a maximum 22 point haul after George Willis (4-68), Jamie Miller (3-27) and Rob Snell (2-27) had earlier helped dismiss the hosts for 235.

A Basingstoke side including David Griffiths are next up at Newclose on Saturday at 13:00.

Ventnor’s second team lost by 6 wickets at Hook &Newnham Basics II in Hampshire League Division 1. 

John Buckman (40), Martin Blackman (41) and Charlie Sammons (43) were the principal run getters in a total of 213 but the visitors were thwarted by Kevin Light whose undefeated 90 saw his team to a victory with four overs remaining.

Hythe & Dibden are the visitors to Steephill on Saturday at 13:00.

A maiden Ventnor half century (67) for Nathan Sprengel and a fine 76 from Mark Fletcher helped Ventnor’s third 11 to a 6 wicket win over Railway Triangle II in Hampshire League Division 2 South East at Steephill on Saturday.

The pair added 130 in an excellent opening partnership before Rob Holdcroft (12 not out) completed the run chase with nine balls remaining.

Ben Attrill (3-22) and Finlay Robertson (2-24) were chiefly responsible for dismissing the visitors for 166.

The side travel to Gosport Borough III on Saturday.
