Pride in Ryde has been restored thanks to efforts to refurbish signs welcoming people to the town. The ‘Welcome to Ryde’ signs at Binstead and Westridge had severely deteriorated and appeared unloved. Having become aware of the issue, Councillor Malcolm Ross played a key role in submitting a Public Realm application for funding to repair and weatherproof both signs. Ryde Town Council, through their Community Planning Committee, approved a budget of £3,250 to fully rejuvenate the signs. Ahead of the Early May Bank Holiday, Biltmore Printers vinyl wrapped the signs and many of the timber supports were replaced or resecured. Ryde Town Council has been pleased with the positive feedback from the public regarding this project to date.

Yes, I know it’s only a sign, and I know it’s a very minor thing in the great scheme, but I’m pretty sure that all those complaining about the signs being renovated would be up in arms too if it had been decided to simply let the signs rot away.
