Following months of disruption to residents and motorists alike, which has subsided in recent weeks, water main issues have returned to St John’s Hill in Ryde today (Monday) resulting in the closure of the main through road.
Following the discovery of a leak at around 05:00 this morning, the road has been closed from Alexandra Road to High Street (Oakfield) to allow repairs to be carried out to a burst water main by contractors Clancy Docwra.
As previously reported by Island Echo, St John’s Hill has experienced a number of burst water mains following the unsuccessful replacement of water pipes in the area, a saga that has been ongoing since October last year. Most notably, the road partially collapsed back in April.
Southern Vectis buses and motorists are being diverted via Harding Road to rejoin Great Preston Road. It is currently unknown how long the road will remain closed for.
