A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Joseph Barrass – commonly known as Joe Baker – following his failure to turn up to court for yet more driving offences.
Barrass, of Union Road in Ryde, was due before Magistrates this morning (Friday) charged with 2x driving whilst disqualified and 2x using a motor vehicle without third party insurance.
It is alleged that on 16th March this year, Barrass was driving a Ford Fiesta on Victoria Road without insurance. Then, on 23rd March, Barrass is alleged to have been driving the same vehicle, this time on Albert Road in Sandown.
Following his failure to appear in court today, Magistrates agreed that a warrant was to be issued for his arrest.
In February 2021, Barrass was handed a 16-month prison sentence, suspended for 2 years, for incidents in July and August 2020. This followed other incidents in 2018 and 2019.
He went on to commit further offences so in October 2021 he was handed a 2-year prison sentence, with Police hailing the sentencing as something that would protect the public from his offending. However, just 6 months later he had been released from behind bars and re-offended.
On 27th March last year he is alleged to have driven a vehicle along the B3157 between Bridport and Weymouth whilst disqualified.
For reasons unknown, Barrass was given bail – instead of being recalled to prison – to appear at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court in September. However, he failed to show and a warrant was issued for his arrest. On 4th October, Barrass was arrested in Sandown. However, Island Echo does not know what happened after this arrest…
Now, Barrass is wanted on warrant once again for offences committed in March 2023, which falls well within the 2-year time period of the sentence he received in October 2021.

Yet as we should realise, that since mass arrivals to the UK of unpleasant types, our prisons are now so full that we cannot jail our own EVER again for ‘meaningful’ terms, UNLESS the crime is as bad or worse than those already ‘inside’
Hence the Police catch them but judges ‘have’ to let them off until they kill or maim badly because the benefit system is a magnet to the world’s dross now.
