A yellow weather warning has been issued for the Isle of Wight with heavy, thundery downpours expected to develop this afternoon (Thursday).
The IW Met Office has advised that showers will begin to form from around 13:00, initially affecting areas closer to the mainland before moving into northern and eastern parts of the Isle of Wight by mid to late afternoon.
The rest of the Island may see showers by the evening, although forecasters believe these may start to weaken later in the day.
Some of the showers are expected to be intense, with the potential for significant downpours in isolated spots. Rainfall totals could reach up to 50mm in the heaviest areas, but most locations are likely to see less than 20mm, and some may avoid rain altogether.
The unsettled conditions may lead to localised flash flooding in areas prone to surface water build-up. There is also a risk of soil, silt, gravel and stones being washed across rural roads and walkways, creating hazardous conditions for motorists and pedestrians. Polluted stormwater may also impact some of the Island’s beaches.
The warning remains in place until 21:00 this evening.
Residents and visitors are advised to take extra care when travelling and to avoid flood-prone routes where possible.

Oh i was going to fill my buckets up from my outside hose pipe ..won’t need to do that now..Thanks for the heads up.

“Do we really need this…???”
well that depends on whether you are talking about about the ‘Polluted stormwater’.. or about the information / warning given…
in the latter case, you obviously don’t,.. so I suggest you don’t read it
After all,.. no-one is forcing you to !
in the former case,.. we probably don’t need that either, but there is always a remote chance we may get it…
hurry up where is it????..if it’s not here soon buckets getting filled from hose to water plants and clean cars..
You know full well you can’t use the hosepipe to do that. Are you one of those people who do it anyway, because you think it’s your ‘right’, and that rules somehow don’t apply to you? Or think you’re clever in bending them?
Don’t care you think im going to pull the quick release from outside tap to the hose? do you stop having showers ? that’s a hose..its all bollocks..fuck em nearly 100 million liters a day spunk ed away from leaks..
Oh so you are.
Take no notice, he’s all mouth and a keyboard warrior by the looks of it. He would be crying like a baby if he got caught and had to pay a fine. Goon by name, Goon by nature.
Also possible, so make preparations now:
Well, OK, not that last one.
I have been carrying my waterproofs and brolly around
all day for nothing.
It’s been a gorgeous day, beautiful walk from Seaview
to Dell Cafe for a stiff one, and not a cloud in sight.
You probably got home just in time then. The current thunder you can hear is a storm in Southampton, sound waves delay of about 10 seconds. If it crosses the Solent it should be here in about 1-2 hours.
You can say that again. I just made it home then
the heavens opened up.
I didn’t think it would reach the island due to the
expensive ferry fares.
Lol
I’m still waiting..
