Top-of the-table Ventnor 2nds extended their lead at the top of Division 3 (South) with a comfortable 72-run victory against Verwood at Steephill. After winning the toss and electing to bat, Ventnor reached a respectable 202-8 in their 45 overs, with Jack Powell top scoring with 57 before being clean bowled by Oliver Arnold. Verwood were skittled out for 130 in the 38th over in reply. Ben Attrill was the pick of the bowlers for Ventnor with an economical 2-12 off 7 overs. In Hampshire League Division 1, Ryde managed a narrow win over Portsmouth 2nds at Harding Shute with just 4 balls remaining. Ian Hailes (4-25) did the most damage with the ball, with Ash Goldsmith (3-22) taking a treble of wickets. Ryde overcame the Portsmouth total for the loss of 2 wickets with Kerry Rice (36) top scoring for the home side. Shanklin & Godshill’s fell 2 runs short of beating Old Tautonians & Romsey at Westhill. After being put in to bat by Shanklin, the visiting side were bowled out for 228 in the 40th over, with Harry Moore (3-42) taking a treble of wickets for the home side. Shanklin somehow contrived to lose by just 2 runs with 4 wickets in hand despite powerful innings from from Seb Egerton-Read (93) and Olly Niemiec (55).
