Ventnor Cricket Club’s first team were thwarted by the weather for the third consecutive weekend in their latest British Gas Southern Premier League fixture.
Batting first, they had reached 52-1 against Hook & Newnham Basics from only 7 overs before incessant rain forced an abandonment.
Top of Division 1 Calmore Sports visit Newclose on Saturday.
The second 11 no doubt wished the elements had intervened in their Hampshire League Division 1 match at Shrewton. They were dismissed for only 53 and lost by 10 wickets.
They welcome Ropley to Steephill on Saturday, needing a win to halt a slide down the table..
The third team defeated Sarisbury IV by 28 runs at Steephill in Hampshire League Division 2 South East.
Mark Fletcher was the Ventnor man of the match, hitting 63 at the top of the innings with Mark Price (59), then taking 5-17 was his gentle medium pace to clinch victory for the hosts.
