A Ventnor man has been charged as part of an investigation into nuisance 999 phone calls being made to emergency services.
35-year-old Michael Alan Clifton-Smith, of High Street, Ventnor, has been charged with a number of offences after being arrested by Police yesterday.
Smith has been charged with failing to comply with a Community Protection Notice, persistently making use of public communication to cause annoyance, inconvenience or anxiety, relating to calls made to police and ambulance and resisting arrest.
It is alleged the nuisance 999 calls occurred on dates between 11th and 18th June.
Smith was charged last night and remanded in custody to appear at the Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court this morning (Wednesday), where he was bailed with conditions to appear at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court on 27th July.

Old farts wasting time again
What do you mean Kev?
What a 35 year old?
Try reading and understanding the article again. He was reported to be 35 years old.
But Kev is only 9yrs so all over 14yr are old farts. Think everyone farts though
Oh do grow up you pathetic t**t !!
I suppose we all need a hobby.
Here is a suggestion. Get this clown to sit and answer the calls that they have to take. Maybe then he will realise not only the time he has been wasting, but to see how those carrying out this vital work have had to deal with harrowing calls and keep a dignified stance.
