Set to score 260 to win, Nicklin (101), James Cheek with a season’s best 74 and Schaughn van Greunen (64) gave the visitors the upper hand before a collapse from 167-3 to 210 all out denied them a much needed victory.
Third placed Bournemouth are the visitors to Newclose on Saturday at 12:30.
The second team lost by 102 runs at Bishop’s Waltham in Hampshire League Division 1 on Saturday.
In pursuit of a total of 255-6, only Mark Fletcher with unbeaten 71 held up the hosts who dismissed Ventnor for 153.
The Hampshire League season closes on Saturday with Ventnor II probably needing to beat Fareham & Crofton to retain their place in Division 1.
The third 11 lost by a massive 227 runs against Old Netley in Hampshire League Division 2 South East at Steephill.
