Ventnor lifted the Hundred League trophy with a 6-wicket win over Ryde at Steephill on Friday (5th September).
Ryde were invited to bat first after Ben Attrill won the toss for the home side. Jack Summers top scored with 30 as the away team were dismissed for 116 with 4 of the 100 balls unused. Toby Noyes and Charlie Calloway each took 3 wickets for Ventnor and Kayton Evans 2.
In reply, openers Ben Fry (23) and skipper Attrill (16) added 35 before a quick-fire stand of 30 between Kevin Cooper (13) and Toby Noyes increased the momentum. Noyes went on to make 32 before Ethan Short (17 not out) and Charlie Calloway (2 not out) saw their team home with 8 balls in hand.

MAIDEN TON FOR CHARLIE CALLOWAY
Charlie Calloway chose the glorious surroundings of the Duke of Richmond’s Goodwood Estate to score his first ever century on Sunday.
With Goodwood House as the backdrop, the Ventnor stalwart put the home attack to the sword as he struck 14 fours and 3 sixes in a terrific 104 ball knock of 115. With young Thomas Southcott lending impressive support with 56, the away side totalled a formidable 297-6 in the 40 overs a side contest.
Toby Toft with 65 led the Goodwood response before the Ventnor bowlers got to work. There were three wickets apiece for Oliver McQuillan and Toby Noyes and two for Dan Cox as the hosts were dismissed for 185 to give the visitors an 112 run victory.
In other games…
Ben Fry thumped a splendid 91 for Ventnor’s 4th team before rain caused the abandonment of their final Island League Division 2 match against Northwood II.
The teenager hit fourteen boundaries and a six before being run out nine runs short of a maiden Ventnor ton. The young side finished in a creditable 4th place.
Gary Legg captained a similarly youthful 3rd eleven who performed admirably with only the experienced 1st teams of Newport and Northwood finishing above them.
The 1st and 2nd team’s final League matches were also curtailed by the weather.
Ventnor were dismissed for 81 at Havant in the Southern Premier League with the hosts on 15-1 when the rains came. A 2nd-placed Division 1 finish represented an excellent campaign for Ben Woodhouse’s side, who were in contention for the title before losing at Hambledon in the penultimate round of fixtures. Sarisbury Athletic clinched the only promotion spot and will compete in the Premier Division next season.
In Hampshire League Division 2B, Ventnor’s second side can be pleased with a top four finish in a restructured competition. Visiting Havant II had reached 126-2 from 29 overs when the miserable weather prevented any further play. Portsmouth II convincingly won the division and promotion to County 1.
