Ventnor 2nds appear to be favourites for promotion from Division 3 (South) after picking up their 9th victory of the season away to Old Netley and Highfield. After winning the toss and electing to bat, Ventnor made an impressive 276 for the loss of 3 wickets, with openers Mark Fletcher hitting 112 not out and Rob Snell 71 in a 1st wicket partnership of 123. Old Netley were restricted to 202 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their 45 overs. Hugh Calloway (3-49) took a treble of wickets for Ventnor with Rob Snell (2-14) and Charlie Turpin (2-27) both picking up braces. In Hampshire League Division 1, Ryde went down to a 42-run defeat at 2nd-from-bottom Bashley 2nds. After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Bashley posted a more than adequate 257 for the loss of 4 wickets. Tom Durman (3-53) was the pick of the bowlers for Ryde. Durman starred with both bat and ball, top scoring in the Ryde innings with 60 before being caught lbw by Phil Morris. However, the Island side could only make 215 for the loss of 8 wickets in their 45 overs, falling 42 runs short of the Bashley total. Bashley (Rydal) 2nds 257/4 Ryde 215/8 Bashley won by 42 runs Ryde’s defeat leaves them 13th in the table with a points average of 12. In Hampshire 4 (South), Ryde 2nds managed only their 4th win of the season to date by beating Calmore Sports at Harding Shute. After dismissing Calmore for 176 in the penultimate over, with Jibin Matthew (3-31) taking a treble of wickets, Ryde reached their target target in the 43rd over with Ellis Ridett top scoring with 45. In Division 3 (South) Shanklin & Godshill maintained the pressure on the sides above them at the top of the table with a vital 7-wicket victory at Verwood. After losing the toss and being put in to bat, Verwood made a respectable 201 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. Andy White (2-16) took a brace of wickets with Harry Moore (1-28) and Matthew Lambourne (1-28) picking up a wicket apiece. Shanklin surpassed the Verwood total for the loss of just 3 wickets with 2 overs to spare. George Niemiec (76 not out) top scored for Shanklin with Harry Collier (55) also hitting a half century. Verwood 201/6 Shanklin & Godshill 204/3 Shanklin & Godshill won by 7 wickets Shanklin’s win leaves them 3rd in the table with a points average of 17.75.
