Ventnor lost their second game in their 2025 Southern Premier Cricket League campaign on 10th May – beaten by Rowledge by 39 runs.
After winning the toss, the visiting side put themselves into bat, amassing a total of 261/5. Opener Max Martin (88) top scored for Rowledge before being caught lbw by Watts, with veteran David Lloyd (65) also scoring a half century before falling lbw to Cox. Daniel Cox (3-48) was the pick of the Ventnor bowlers, with George Watts (1-54) and Archie Lucy (1-45) taking a wicket apiece.
Ventnor got off to good start in reply with an opening partnership of 72 between captain Ben Woodhouse (22) and Sri Lankan professional Dineth Thimodya (42). Daniel Cox made a knock of 42 for the home side, with Josh Carpenter top-scoring with 43, as the South Wight side reached 159 for the loss of 3 wickets.
However, Ventnor lost their remaining 7 wickets for 63 runs and were skittled out for 222 in the final over.

VENTNOR 2NDS GO DOWN TO 172 RUN DEFEAT
In Hampshire League Division 2B, a Ventnor 2nd team missing several key players lost by 172 runs against Portsmouth II on their sea front ground.
It was a long afternoon in the field for the Islanders as Jamie Mitchell hit 131 in the home side’s huge total of 333-4 from 45 overs. From promising beginnings in an opening stand of 50, the visitors were unable threaten such a target with Ben Attrill (34), Ben Davies (31), Martin Blackman (16) and young Rafe Hawkins (18 not out) the main contributors to Ventnor’s all out score of 161.
Burridge II are the visitors to Steephill on Saturday. The match starts at 12:30.
VENTNOR 4THS VANQUISHED BY FRESHWATER
Ventnor 4ths were beaten by 6 wickets at Freshwater in Island League Division 2.
Young Ben Fry made a fine 50 for Ventnor and with Mark Price contributing 36, the visitors set the home team a target of 149 from 35 overs. Teenager Harry Charlesworth was the pick of the Ventnor bowlers with 3-13 but it was Mike Holliday with 60 who won the match for the hosts with 5 overs to spare.
On Saturday, the 3rd team travel to St Helens in Island League Division 1 while the 4th side take on Arreton in Division 2.
VENTNOR FRIENDLY RESULTS
Dan Cox continued his excellent early season form with an undefeated 69 in Sunday’s 3 wicket friendly win at Ryde.
In an unbroken partnership with Harrison McQuillan who made an impressive 40, the pair added 90 for the eighth wicket to lead an impressive recovery from the depths of 58-7 and victory with two balls remaining. Toby Morgan chipped in with 20. Earlier, Ethan Short and James Sparrow had each taken two wickets as Ryde scored 165-8 from 35 overs.
St Helens won Thursday’s evening fixture at Steephill by six wickets, passing Ventnor’s score of 158 off the very last ball. Ben Fry struck a fluent half century for the hosts while Matteo Burgess (30) and Kevin Cooper (25 not out) lent support.
CUP DEFEAT FOR VIPERS
Ventnor’s Under 15 Vipers team lost by 108 runs to Ryde Rattlers in Wednesday’s Cup tie at Steephill.
Seb Fletcher with 4-27 was the pick of the home team’s bowlers but in reply to the visitors’ 172-6, the home side could only manage 64.
Ventnor Hurricanes and Ventnor Vipers face each other at Steephill in a under 15 league encounter on Wednesday.
FORTHCOMING VENTNOR FRIENDLY FIXTURES
The midweek Ventnor team welcome Newport Victoria at 18:00 on Thursday evening and on Sunday, Southampton based Singh XI pay their annual visit at 14:00.
At 10:00 on Sunday morning, Ventnor’s under 11 side play host to Freshwater.
HAMPSHIRE SET FOR STEEPHILL VISIT
A Hampshire Cricket Representative XI will visit Steephill to take on a Ventnor side in a T20 contest, starting at 15:00 on Wednesday 4th June.
The make-up of the Hampshire side will understandably give due consideration to commitments in the Vitality Blast and Rothesay County Championship, but their chosen eleven will doubtless provide the hosts with a stern test.
Admittance to the game will be free of charge with a licensed bar and hot food available from 14:00 onwards.
