Oakfield FC’s football pitch has been left torn up and unplayable after it was vandalised overnight.
Club volunteers say the damage has been caused by suspected vandals riding across the surface on electric bikes, undoing years of hard work in a “matter of minutes.”
This weekend, the clubs First and A side have fixtures pencilled in at the Slade Road ground. It remains to be seen if the fixtures will be fulfilled or not.
The pitch is also used by a host of Oakfield FC youth teams.
A spokesperson for the club has appealed to the public:
“This pitch didn’t magically appear in good condition. It has taken endless graft from volunteers who bust their backs to keep it playable.
“And after all that work, all that time, all that effort… some absolute idiots think it’s funny to rip around doing stupid tricks and destroy it in minutes.
Anyone with information, including CCTV footage, is being urged to contact the club directly via their Facebook page.
