Van Mossel Esplanade has announced the sale of a rare and iconic Volvo P1800 ES from 1972 – with a £2,000 donation to Mountbatten pledged.
Finished in the original Sun Yellow (colour code 107), this 2-door station wagon – 1 of just over 5,000 ever built – features the model’s signature frameless, all-glass tailgate and is a remarkably well-preserved example of Volvo’s classic design.
With only 6 owners since new, this car boasts a storied history. Notably, it once returned to its homeland of Sweden before being rediscovered by Volvo Car UK’s Managing Director, Kristian Elvefors, and brought back to the UK.
In recent years, it has been under the care of Volvo Heritage UK and on display at the Van Mossel Esplanade showroom, where it has attracted considerable interest.

Van Mossel Esplanade has pledged a charitable gesture tied to the car’s vibrant yellow paintwork. Should the vehicle achieve its asking price, the dealership will donate £1,000 to its chosen charity, Mountbatten, with Volvo Heritage UK agreeing to match this contribution.
Van Mossel Esplanade has already donated over £32,000 to Mountbatten over the past 21 months by contributing for every vehicle sold – with donations also matched by customers themselves.
