Isle of Wight MP Bob Seely has called on Island communities to support their local Post Offices. Mr Seely – who remains the local MP until Parliament is dissolved on Thursday – has noted that the services provided by the Post Office are hugely important, especially to those who don’t use online banking. He has said it is very much a case of ‘use them or lose them’. Recently, an outreach Post Office in Totland faced closure due to changes by Royal Mail, as previously reported by Island Echo. Bob dropped by Totland Post Office to meet the postmistress, Lisa Toyne, and to see how things were going. Lisa said:
“It was great to chat to Bob when he popped by. He was interested to know about the services we offer and how the community use us. “Most of our customers come in to use the cash deposit and withdrawal service but they also use us to deposit cheques, tax their vehicles and return parcels. “When people come in, they also often like to chat about what’s going on in the village, it’s the hub of the community really.”
Bob said:
“I’m really pleased that the Totland Post Office is still serving local residents. It’s a really valuable service. “I am challenging Royal Mail about their charging policy for collecting the mail which I believe is damaging for the Post Office and its customers. I hope to hear back from them soon. “I would encourage all Islanders to use their local post offices so that we can keep them serving local communities for many more years to come.”
Totland Post Office is open Monday to Friday from 08:00-13:00 and is closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

When they’re open till lunchtime and then closed on weekends, how are you meant to use them if you work?
John, you need to try living in a place where the “Post Office” is only open once a week at the local Town Hall. Only an idiot would arrange an “electoral photo opportunity” at a local Post Office. Would you, John, vote for such stupidity?
Suddenly this useless half a sausage pops up for a photo shoot at every opportunity, not so visable before an election is on it’s way!
I hope we get rid of him this time!
Glad he is standing your side of the fence, Matey. Be sure you push him about 500 miles West of the Needles! Good riddance to bad etc……
I pray for you my friend, you sound a very disturbed person.
If you feel like talking, come to our church on Sunday.
Ask for Bartholomew Jones , and we can pray together.
I’m Looking forward to Bob continuing as local MP.
I would hope that your church, whichever denomination it is, would refrain from dabbling in party politics.
Here we go,pop up bob again, the most useless so called MP the island has ever had, dont tell me,he is claiming its him that kept it open?
abhorrent man,hopefully be gone soon!
And he pops up again!! Not actually doing anything though
Anybody tried using the Post Office desk in Seaview Pharmacy? It’ll be quicker to walk my post to it’s destination, given it’s never open or operational!
I wonder do they still get paid for being a post office even if it’s always out of order and “waiting for an engineer” to rectify a fault?
Bob continuing his farewell tour of the island. I wish I could say we will be sad to see him go but we aren’t. He has been a total waste of money.
And appropriately vilified by all of us, Peter!
A cropped pic of just him would make for a great “Farewell Tour” Tshirt. We could have a list of his failed promises on the back with a half eaten curved sausage at the bottom as a rocker.
Your a total waste of space along with Dick the Prick if you got all the big ideas then stand for election instead of blah blah blah blah sob sob sob get off your but and do something
Nice picture… ‘which of you suckers is going to vote for me’ Look how important I look…
Funny how pop up Bob is only interested in anything local when there is an election looming. You’re finished Bob and you know it.
Bye Bob. Everyone by now has seen through your deceit.
Here he is again. Make the most of it as you wont see him again for 4 years after the election.
Sending packages to friends and family in France and Spain is so cumbersome! Fill in the entire duty form just to send over my used dress to my sister.
Can we solve this one somehow? It was fine before Brexit.
Which party made it so terrible, Mr MP?
We have been useing it Bob! It’s out of our hands, and it’s been a political choice to close it from the management teams. So maybe you should be addressing your statements to them and not us the locals who have been very supportive to Lisa.
Royal Mail now owned by a Czech, what else is the UK selling off,
we don’t have much left.
Maybe we will flog the Royals next!
The only Royal that needs flogging is Andrew….Publicly.
Would rather flog the MPs myself
Nice one Bob. Grabbing a headline where previously there was no news. You can tell an election is on the way.
I think tbe privatisation of the Post Office and Royalmail are chiefly to blame for the dwindling amount of local post offices and the Royal Mail trying to charge for a collection…Maybe Bob could run a local Post Office after the election?..Be wary of thier IT systems though Bob.
How does it feel to be used by iw county village idiot champion. He has shown no interest in the island before unless it suits him and his cronies. Please islanders don’t vote him back in. Let him go back under his rock where he’s been hiding for ages unless there is a photo shoot somewhere
The irony of it The Govt involvement in the Post Office .. is very questionable.. the treatment of Postmasters and subpostmasters was a utter disgrace.. and then PopUp does this in his last ditch attempt to please the blue rinse brigade on the island to re-elect him .. islanders please do not re elect him or it will be for more of the same …nothing from him .. his track record speaks volumes about delivering nothing .
Sandown is still waiting for the return of its well used post office Bob.
We used it but still lost it – three times.
Well, as the CONservative government, it seems, have agreed to the sale of Royal Mail to a foreign (Czech) billionaire, the service to locals is hardly likely to get better, is is Bob ?
yet another thing where Profit (for extremely wealthy people) is put above everything else by the CONservatives.
Typical Tories…
Sell something toone of their ‘kind’ to make massiveproffits & then blame the decline in services on the locals for not using it enough..
How about BS (Bob Sealy) go back to hiding behind a desk, maybe he will have a good motion to push forward one day. At the moment the only thing he’s pushing is s##t from his a###e
Very impressive, Bob, and all your on work!
Now how about proper post offices in Newport, Cowes …
So, Totland is a good example of why people are moving away from Post Offices. Only open Monday to Friday 08:00 – 13:00 and closed weekends. No good for working people then!
Other than returning parcels, all other services are available via the internet.
Hahahaha
Pop ups at it again
Predictable
Thank God we will be rid of “Half Sausage” on the Eastern Front. Used to wonder why my extremely popular and kind local Post Office Manager just “vanished” a few years back, the local Post Office being shut down, and the premises, where there had been a shop since 1805, converted to eye-sore “residential” use. Well, we all know now, Mr.Seely. Shameful incompetent injustice. Those responsible for such need jailing. Those with self promotional, self advancing, self centered political motivations need exposing, and pursuing until they are found out, and justice is done. Only fools would vote for you, Mr. Seely. Pity those at the far end of the Island.
Dick the Prick spewing his views again who woke you up idiot no one used the post office that’s why it shut not Bob’s fault only yours and your cronies all we get blah blah blah back to sleep now
Kev, I understand you may have been in a bit of a rush when you typed your latest note so, as a bit of a favour I’m sending you some full stops, commas, a question mark and a couple of upper case letters. Hopefully, once you’re not too busy, you can scatter a few around your message and try to make it so that it makes some kind of sense.
You’re welcome.
W N N A B ….. ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ ?
Excellent post!! Love it.
The island is in chaos, roads blocked or closed, NHS in crisis, drugged drivers running riot on the roads, police can’t arrest anyone, water bill to double whilst pumping our s&&t into the sea, 1000’s of illegals a day coming to the UK and pop up bob wants to save some post offices. He should have thought of that before privatising the post office and allowing corrupt management to convict innocent people for crimes they did not commit.
The level of disconnect is incredible.
If you’re a tory, then you need to vote reform. Everyone else vote labour even if you don’t like them. At least we get this useless waste of space out of the news.
A couple of points, thanks to privatisation, Royal Mail is no longer anything to do with The Post Office. How bizarre is that? But RM continue to shoot themselves in the foot by upping prices and reducing collection and deliveries. This has been coming a long while now and we can expect a complete hash up when the Ceck comes in with an abolition of second class post, weekend deliveries, posting facility reductions, and an extra tarrif on ffshore locations! We can expect alternate day deliveries as well as a huge hike in prices. All this will force usage down even more. It is coming to something when the Christmas stamps cost more than the cards!
But spare a thought for those that rely on RM.They are being sold down the river make no mistake
So Island Echo recently stated, an outreach Post Office in Totland faced closure due to changes by Royal Mail. Royal Mail is about to be sold to a Czech billionaire. I’m sure he’ll be concerned about any changes he makes that affect Post Offices. Another privatisation that ruins a public service!
How does it survive without offering a mail delivery service?
Would be better off selling ice creams during the summer.
Sandown would use one if we had it….
Have to find one first
I just want to say how amazing Lisa is that runs the post office. I have never met someone who is so helpful, kind and cheerful, she really is brilliant and i’m so happy that the post office is going to stay open.
