A Ryde man who launched an unprovoked attack on a delivery driver’s car has been ordered to pay £1,750 compensation.
Simon Dalley, 34, of Upton Road in Ryde, admitted causing criminal damage to property valued under £5,000 on the evening of 17th December 2022 when he appeared before Magistrates on Friday (19th May).
Prosecutor Liz Miller told the court that at around 20:00, Dalley began verbally abusing a man in the Co-operative car park in Ryde whilst the male was walking towards the supermarket having just parked his Toyota Yaris.
Dalley began to kick the male’s vehicle causing damage to the doors, windows and wing mirrors before getting inside the vehicle and ripping out the radio from the dashboard.
The victim called Police who apprehended and arrested Dalley in a nearby kebab shop.
Around £1,500 worth of damage was caused to the Japanese motor which was used by the complainant daily in his work as an Uber Eats delivery driver.
Defending, Oscar Vincent told the court that his client was struggling mentally following the cancer diagnosis of his dog – which he had owned for 11 years. He also added that Dalley – who works as a painter and decorator – felt bad that the male had lost work as a result of what he did.
Magistrates ordered Dalley pay compensation of £1,750 – £1,500 for the damage to the vehicle and an extra £250 for the psychological repercussions of the incident.
Earlier this year Dalley was found guilty of being drunk and disorderly in a public place. He was fined £660 and ordered to pay £300 costs with a £66 surcharge.

Who on Earth would wish to have a cretin like that working in their home?
Needs putting down along with the poor pet, God only knows what life that has lead.
Well said!
So if Uber have licence to deliver food can we expect to see Uber Taxis on the island instead of being ripped off by local taxi firms who have a similar charging policy to wight link and red funnel
No compensation for lost income then?
Disgusted he used his dog as an excuse, the man is not a human being and probably didn’t give a toss about his dog but used it instead of admitting he has a drink issue and is not fit for the human race. Shame we can’t export him to another country.
There are too many morons like him roaming around our streets these days.
