Unbeaten Shanklin & Godshill have gone 20 points clear at the top of Hampshire Division 3 (South) after beating Bedhampton Mariners by 2 wickets on Saturday (8th June). Bedhampton – who won the toss and elected to bat – started their innings well, looking set for a score in excess of 200 as S Wainwright (36) and M Hovey (40 not out) made telling contributions. The Shanklin bowlers stuck to their task taking wickets at vital times, and Nathan Moore was able to remove the tailenders taking 3 for 38. Shanklin again fielded well, with wicket keeper Sean Philips taking two catches and a stumping as Bedhampton were dismissed for 178 in the 39th over. After tea, Shanklin started their run chase, losing wickets at regular intervals. However, Harry Collier defied the Bedhampton bowlers with a sublime 86 from 107 balls, hitting 9 4s and a 6 and looked like he was going to steer the home side to victory until O Parvin – who was the pick of the bowlers taking 3 for 30 – dismissed him. In a tense finish, the Shanklin tailenders were able to see the home side to victory by 2 wickets in the 43rd over. Harry Collier was deservedly awarded the player of the match by the match sponsor Andy White with the victory keeping Shanklin unbeaten so far this season and top of the table. Portsmouth 209/2 Ventnor 208/6 Portsmouth won by 8 wickets In Southern Premier Division 1, Ventnor went down to a 8-wicket defeat against Portsmouth after winning the toss and electing to bat. Ventnor started well, reaching 49 without loss, before Dineth Thimodya was caught by Wimble off the bowling of Evans in the 10th over for 21 and was quickly followed by fellow opener Henry Bartlett, caught by Daini off the bowling of Gadd for 25. Sam Guerin and Daniel Cox then made a partnership of 87 before Guerin was lbw off the bowling of Joy for 50. Hugh Calloway (1) and Rob Snell (4) both fell cheaply before Cox was dismissed for 44 after being caught by Christian off the bowling of Wimble. Toby Noyes made 27 not out and Ollie Morgan 20 not out, with Ventnor finishing their innings with a beatable 208. Portsmouth took 35 overs and 1 ball to beat the Ventnor total, with Mohammad Ashraful hitting 66 runs and Harry Gadd top scoring with 82. Defeat for Ventnor leaves the South Wight side 5th in Southern Premier Division 1 with a points average of 13.25. Hambledon 109/5 Ventnor 108 all out Hambledon won by 5 wickets Ventnor were knocked out of the National Village Cup at the Regional stage by Hambledon on Sunday. After winning the toss and electing to bat, Ventnor were skittled out in the 38th over for just 108. Hambledon took 31 overs to surpass the Ventnor total, with G Watts (2-24) and D Cox (2-24) both taking pairs of wickets for the Island side. Ben Attrill (4-43) was the pick of the bowlers for Ventnor, with Jake Toulson (3-23) picking up a treble of wickets and Jack Powell (2-64) a pair. Ventnor were skittled out in the 43rd over in reply, with Martin Blackman top scoring with 47 before being clean bowled by McDowell. Ryde 112/2 Ferndown Wayfarers 110 all out Ryde won by 8 wickets In Hampshire Division 1, Ryde comprehensively beat Ferndown to record their 1st win of the season. Ferndown were restricted to just 110 runs before being skittled out in 28 overs. Ben Gregory (4-31) and Tom Durman (4-35) both took 4 wickets apiece for Ryde. Ryde surpassed Ferndown’s modest total in the 31st over with Tom Durman top scoring with 59 runs. Victory leaves Ryde 13th in Division 1, with a points average of 11.33. Burridge 3rds 203/8 Ryde 2nds 193 all out Burridge won by 10 runs In Hampshire Division 4 (South), Ryde 2nds lost for the 1st time this season on the road at Burridge. After losing the toss and being put in to field, Ryde restricted Burridge to 203 in their 45 overs with Andy Day (3-41) the pick of the Ryde bowlers. Ryde fell just 10 runs short of the Burridge total after being skittled out in the 42nd over. Opener Mark Oatley top scored for Ryde with 86 before being clean bowled by James Wright. Ryde’s defeat leaves them 6th with a points average of 18.
