2 Ukrainian men have been charged in connection with an alleged people smuggling operation after a boat full of illegal migrants was intercepted off the Isle of Wight at the weekend.
43-year-old Oleksandr Yavtushenko and 37-year-old Vladyslav Cherniavskyi will both appear before Portsmouth Magistrates today (Tuesday) charged with facilitating illegal immigration.
It follows the interception of a yacht off the coast of the Isle of Wight on Sunday in an operation involving the National Crime Agency, Border Force and French law enforcement, which saw the vessel escorted into Gosport marina, as previously reported by Island Echo.
4 migrants – 3 Albanian males and a Vietnamese female – have now been handed over to the immigration authorities.
A fifth individual, Albanian national Pellumb Selimi, 29, has been detained after being further arrested for failing to appear at court in connection with drugs offences. He is due to appear before St Albans Crown Court.

Not a single person has said the pension age is going up to 74. This age has come around by a think tank warning if reform of the triple lock doesn’t happen, then this would be needed by 2069. The review is looking at the potential rise to 68 in the mid 2040’s. Don’t be a sensationalist tosser.

The usual hyperbole. Where does age 74 come from? The state pension age may have to increase but that is largely due to demographics and lack of planning over decades by successive governments of all hues. Of course we need to control immigration, of course we need to stop people smuggling but we also need to stop using immigration as the excuse for everything wrong with our country. For those of us who were Boomers, we were incredibly lucky to have grown up in much more positive times and lived our working lives during periods of greater general prosperity and good public services. But there were lots of us paying tax to pay for those services. Changes in birth rates, mortality rates, longevity and in our welfare dependent culture have all contributed to change and it is both naive and, frankly, foolish to point solely at immigration as a cause.
You sound like an admirer of Nigel Farage, a man who utters Daily Mail headlines without any proposals to remedy a problem. It’s almost as intelligent as was the ducking stool.

Regardless of the country origin of the offending sailors , the fact that they committed crime by smuggling others to the UK is very bad.
Hopefully they will receive custodial sentences for this.
