UPDATED WITH VIDEO: The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are this morning (Friday) responding to a stack of tires on fire in Brighstone.
Two water carriers from Ventnor and Freshwater and two pumping appliances from Freshwater and Newport are attending the large blaze at Marsh Green Farm in the village of Brighstone.
Billowing black smoke can be seen for miles around with Island Echo readers reporting from as far away as Brading.
UPDATE @ 10:19 – Firefighters remain on scene tackling the blaze, which covers an area of around 30x30m.
The farmer’s machinery is being used to spread the tires.
UPDATE @ 10:47 – Crews from Newport, Freshwater and Ventnor have been joined by a retained crew from East Cowes, however the blaze has been brought under control.
The Incident Command Unit is also on scene and two water carriers continue to shuttle water supplies.
The stack of tires is being spread out from against a wall with the assistance of a telehandler, whilst two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus damp down silage on the other side, which has partially caught fire.
No animals or persons have been injured in the blaze and the majority of the farm’s silage supply has been saved.
UPDATE @ 12:12 – The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service remain at the scene damping down the large amount of tires.
Crews from Freshwater, Ventnor and East Cowes have now stood down from the incident.
