Shops in Wootton and Brading have been targeted by thieves overnight, sparking a Police investigation.
Officers from Hampshire Constabulary are making enquiries following break-ins at the Spar shop in Wootton High Street and the Costcutter store in Brading High Street during the early hours of this morning (Sunday).
Two men have been captured on CCTV kicking the door in of the Costcutter shop in Brading at around 03:45 before piling hundreds of cigarettes into a large bag. The pair are then seen to be running from the scene in the direction of The Mall.
Around an hour earlier in Wootton, a concrete block was used to smash a window to gain entry to the Spar shop, where cigarettes were also stolen.
There is no suggestion at this moment in time that this latest incident is related to shop robberies or safe thefts on the Island in recent months, however Police are linking the two break-ins.
The owners of Costcutter in Brading have released CCTV footage of the moment the thieves raided the shop.
Anyone with information should contact Police on 101 quoting 44160135639. Information can be given anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
