A trio of men have been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life after yet another fire at the derelict Cygnet Hotel in Sandown last night (Tuesday).
Police were called at 19:54 by blue-light colleagues at Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service to a report of a fire at the Cygnet Hotel in Sandown.
At the scene firefighters from Sandown, Ryde, Newport and Ventnor – alongside an Aerial Ladder Platform and the temporary Incident Command Support vehicle – were tackling the ‘small’ blaze.
Carter Street was blocked at the junction with Broadway for around 2-hours whilst the incident was dealt with.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has since confirmed that following enquiries, 3 men – a 56-year-old from Shanklin, a 45-year-old from Sandown, and a 43-year-old from Newport – were all arrested nearby on suspicion of arson with intent to danger life in connection with the incident.
All 3 remain in custody at this time.
No one is believed to have been injured in this incident.
