The trio of Ryan Trigg, Mark Morris and Allen Best recorded a fine away win at Victory in the Men’s Indoor Bowling National Triples when they defeated Dave Watts, Barry Starks and John Biggs.

In a close match they scored 2 shots on the final end to level the scores and go into an extra end. Scoring 1 shot took them into the next round where they will play at home against Alan Geary, Chris Daniels and Ben Paulley from Bournemouth, who are the current holders of the National title. The game will take place at 18:00 on Sunday 2nd February.

In the Men’s National Fours, Alan Cawdell, Paul Dickinson, Darren Griffith and Jack Berry travelled to the Victory Club of Portsmouth to take on the rink of Adrian Ash, skipped by Danny Smith. The Islanders took an early 7 shots to 1 advantage. In a low scoring contest, they maintained the lead throughout and went on to win through to the next round by 14 shots to 10.  In the next round they face another away game this time at Dolphin Club against Andrew Kenway’s quartet.

In the Ladies National Triples, Anne Bernard, Gay Allen and Pauline Proud played at Bournemouth against Jenny Bryant’s trio. Bernard and Proud both had to borrow bowls from the home club but this made no difference to their performances as their side dominated the match from the outset. They ran out easy winners by 20 shots to 4.

In the Men’s Club Singles Championship, 9-time previous winner Darren Griffith and holder Alan Cawdell met in an early round. From 8 shots all the former edged into a 19 shots to 12 advantage. Cawdell reduced the deficit to a single shot but Griffith then scored the 2 shots he needed to go through to the next round by 21 shots to 18.
