TRAVEL DISRUPTION DUE TO THICK FOG AND ICE

UPDATED: Thick fog and icy roads have caused travel disruption this morning, with several roads closed and ferries delayed.

Betty Haunt Lane near Newport has been closed by Police following a minor road traffic collision involving a van. In addition, Firestone Copse Road has been closed after 3 vehicles were involved in a crash earlier this morning.

Merstone Lane remains closed due to the icy conditions, which resulted in another collision at around 06:00. Burnt House Lane has also been closed following a road traffic collision.

Cross-Solent travel is also affected by the adverse conditions today with a shuttle service in operation on Red Jet crossings, 90 minute delays on Wightlink’s Fishbourne-Portsmouth car ferry and 25 minute delays on the company’s Yarmouth-Lymington route.

Hovertravel say they are running with some delays.

UPDATE @ 11:45 – Red Jet services are now running a 1-boat shuttle, whilst Wightlink’s Ryde Pier Head-Portsmouth catamaran is running 30 minutes behind timetable.

Wightlink’s Fishbourne-Portsmouth car ferry is operating 2 hours behind timetable and the Yarmouth-Lymington route is suspended.

UPDATE @ 13:35 – Firestone Copse Road, Burnt House Lane and Merstone Lane have now reopened to all traffic.

Delays on Wightlink’s Fishbourne-Portsmouth route have decreased to 45 minutes.

UPDATE @ 17:10 – Wightlink have confirmed that their Yarmouth-Lymington car ferry service is suspended until mid-morning tomorrow (Tuesday) due to the dense fog and the forecast looking forward.

Delays are still present on Wightlink’s Fishbourne-Portsmouth route.
