Temporary traffic lights on Elenors Grove in Fishbourne are expected to cause congestion on the A3054 all week as SGN undertakes urgent gas network repairs.
This isn’t the first time that SGN has had to carry out repairs in the area earlier this month but the issue wasn’t completely fixed and as a result, engineers and their specialist gear are back.
In order to complete the work, traffic lights needed to be installed this morning (Monday).
It is hoped that traffic flow can be effectively managed with SGN saying that all lights will be manually operated.
Delays in the area are to be expected until Friday 30th June.

They should be told you work until its finished, not just a couple of hours Mon – Fri , any ‘extensions’ will cost SGN dearly. All other road works in the area postponed until the main is completely open. SGN or any other utility to pay all costs.
I dont think you want a gas main completely open?
You are right should have read Main Road, glad you agree with the rest.
All they will do is put it on bills.
“I’ve been told ” they actually get told to hang around to waste time and money. It makes sense with how many hang around leaning on a shovel.
I had a 6 year stint with carillon and they actively told you todo the same, too drag the contract out.(look what happened to them)
A friend “tango” didnt even have a driving license but still worked the 6t dumpers. And more..
All about the chat and who you know.
Not what you know
Saw good old Island Roads putting out the Road Closed signs at Firestone Copse this morning. Surely they’re not shutting down the relief road as well?
When I saw the start of the headline… how did I guess, Newport to Ryde. I’d love a headline that said there are no delays!
Funny how the road works were all cleared away in time for the festival, dont want to upset the tourists do we. That area has been riddled with works over the last 6 months, Havenstreet closed for 6 weeks…
The manual management of lights wasn’t working well. Long tailback to Binstead one was and very much shorter on inbound from Wootton.
the guy sat down and certainly couldn’t see much and must have just been guessing when to turn the lights red/green
What’s new, we have had nothing but Road Works for the last 4+ years
with the Gigabit rollout.
I saw Island Roads operatives working, oops I mean shirking at the bottom of
George Street Ryde today.
There was about 12 of them, only 1 was working the others were watching
I AM NOT JOKING, its no wonder these works have gone way over budget and
way overrun.
It’s no wonder the Council keep increasing our council taxes,
They are responsible for employing Island Roads to carry out work on the
Island.
“Children at school would get more work done than this lot”
Now if they had any sense they would do the job at night when it’s not so busy, less dangerous to the workers and cause less disruption. Oh sorry that’s too easy and called using ones brain
I dont think the residents in earshot of the roaworks would appriciate being kept up all night by the noise
