TRAFFIC CHAOS IN NEWPORT AS DOUBLE WORKS CAUSE LENGTHY TAILBACKS

If you’re travelling into Newport this lunchtime then expect lengthy delays as roadworks on Fairlee Road and Parkhurst Road are causing lengthy tailbacks. Motorists are complaining of significant delays heading into Newport from Cowes to temporary traffic lights on Parkhurst Road/Horsebridge Hill, near the prisons. This is seeing traffic backing up to Northwood near Cowes, with some delays for those heading towards Cowes too. Works are being carried out in this location by Openreach and are set to continue until the end of the week. Elsewhere in Newport, traffic is backed up along the length of Fairlee Road to Racecourse Roundabout near Whippingham due to temporary traffic lights on the major route in and out of Newport. Island Roads is carrying out maintenance works near the junction with Hillside and Victoria Road until 15:30 today, with works continuing between 09:30-15:30 tomorrow (Thursday) too.
