Sandown Town Council has confirmed its commitment to supporting Sandown Carnival’s plans for the New Year’s Day firework event.
The Town Council have pledged £6,000 in support for the annual event, as well as starting discussions for the 2022 programme of events.
Sandown Mayor Paddy Lightfoot has said:
“The Town Council appreciate the work of volunteers, and it has been a challenging time during COVID and the impact it had on fundraising, so we wanted to ensure the association had funding in place to support this much-loved event”.
The Town Council is also arranging for extra opening of toilets for the fireworks event.
Paddy concluded:
“The Town Council, within our limited resources, want to ensure we start planning for events and activities in 2022 which benefit residents and tourists alike, and work with partners, such as the Carnival Association, to maximise the impact for the local community”.
Why not show the London display on a big screen?People out can watch a fantastic display and hear the new year in with the chimes of Big Ben.The alternative being a cutback, cheap display where we can cheer every firework and wonder… at what more cutbacks the IOW council will make to pay for them.
As far as I know it has nothing to do with the IOW Council. I’d rather go to a local firework display than watch TV. It’s always a good display and I appreciate all the work that the volunteers do.
Is that the London display that isn’t happening??
