Visitors to Yarmouth will now be able to find a wealth of information about the historic town and the surrounding area thanks to a new Tourist Information Point at Yarmouth Harbour Office, which was launched yesterday (Friday).
Already offering a range of services and facilities to the thousands of UK and overseas yachtsmen who visit the harbour each year, tourists will have access to free and friendly advice and information to help them make the most of their visit to Yarmouth.
Staff at the Yarmouth Tourist Information Point will offer guidance on attractions, entertainment, events and eating out. Visitors and locals alike will be able to pick-up promotional material, including maps, guides and gifts.
Chris Lisher, Chief Executive/Yarmouth Harbourmaster said:
“This is a great opportunity to access a huge visitor base, many of whom are travelling from Holland, France and even further afield.
“Yarmouth Harbour Commissioners are delighted to host a Tourist Information Point at the Harbour Office, which will be of undoubted benefit to the visiting yachtsmen who pass through the Office and also other tourists to the area who currently struggle to find tourist information. In addition we’d like to attract them all into Yarmouth Town.”
This new visitor centre is the latest in a series of investments made by Visit Isle of Wight, thanks to financial support from the Isle of Wight Council, aimed at improving visitor information across the Island. Since July, new tourist information points have opened in Shanklin, Ryde, Brighstone, Ventnor and Brading and more are planned over the next few weeks in Godshill, Sandown, Newport and the West Wight.
David Thornton, CEO, Visit Isle of Wight said:
“Our aim is to have a network of well-located visitor centres across the whole Island.
“This investment in Yarmouth Harbour will ensure it is able to provide an excellent visitor experience and generate significant benefits for Yarmouth and the wider visitor economy on the Island.”
