The Royal Navy Bomb Disposal team from Portsmouth have been on the Isle of Wight today (Thursday).
A torpedo engine was hauled up by a local fisherman back in April, resulting in damage to the boat’s expensive fishing gear.
As part of an insurance claim for damages the bomb disposal experts were tasked to Cowes to collect the evidence.
It is though the remains of the torpedo – a self-propelled weapon with an explosive warhead – dates back to World War II.
If you should find ordnance on or around the Island’s coastline you should call the Coastguard on 999
