Chair of the Isle of Wight Council’s education committee Paul Brading is defending his Lake South seat against Labour, the Greens and Reform UK.
First elected in 2017, the Conservative councillor faces Finton Anthony Burns (Labour), Harry Eccles (The Green Party) and Ros Freeman (Reform UK) at the May 7 local elections.
The Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) sought 100-word pitches and photos from nominees, either directly or through parties or groups.

Paul James Brading (incumbent ward councillor)
I have proudly represented Lake South as both Isle of Wight councillor and chair of the parish council for nine years now. I have lived in Lake and Sandown all my life, so have an in-depth knowledge of the needs and issues of the area.
I am a local primary school governor, member of the Sandown Rotary club, and chair of the MS Society. The Fairway junction alterations, enhancing facilities for all ages, especially the youth, and continuing to develop and grow the whole area are key priorities I will continue to deliver on. Finton Anthony Burns
Finton Burns is a longtime resident of the Bay Area, well known within the community for his volunteer work at Shanklin Theatre.
Harry Eccles
I am a local nurse who moved to the Island to work for the drug and alcohol service. I specialise in mental health and addiction and am currently finalising my masters in Advance Nurse Practice.
I work at a national leadership level in a nursing union, supporting nurses to win fair pay and conditions. My passion for politics has led me to campaign for workers’ rights, equality for all and an NHS free from privatisation. I am standing for the first time as a local councillor.
Ros Freeman
I am a resident of Lake South and I am standing for election because I want to support as much as I can the residents, small businesses and self-employed in our beautiful part of the Island.
I am not a politician; I am a businesswoman and mum with three grown-up children and six grandchildren, all of whom work very hard. I value family life and the importance of supporting the residents of Lake South, and although I can’t promise to fix everything, I will do my best for you and the community.
