The Sandown Bay Regatta Hat Parade is making a return this Summer – with a top prize of £100 up for grabs for the best creation.
Taking place on Sunday 10th August, the popular competition invites Islanders to get creative with their headwear for a chance to win cash and bragging rights.
As well as a £100 prize for Best Hat, there will be an award for the best design by an under-12 and the coveted Mad Hatter prize for the most eccentric entry.
The event is being organised by Sandown Carnival in partnership with regeneration project Boojum & Snark, with Arts Council funding helping to bring back the tradition last year.
A spokesperson for Sandown Carnival has said:
“We’re thrilled to give young and old alike the chance to get creative over the next six weeks and have fun parading the results of their work on the beach.”
Sandown’s larger-than-life Regatta hats have featured in Summer carnival parades and last year formed part of the Hats Off to Sandown exhibition at Quay Arts.
Updates and entry details will be posted on Sandown Carnival’s Facebook page over the coming weeks.
