A superb double hundred opening partnership of 209 between Dineth Thimodya and 19-year-old Josh Carpenter was the cornerstone of a resounding 62-run win for Ventnor at Waterlooville in Division 1 of the Southern Premier League last Saturday.
In uncertain weather conditions which saw the match reduced to 44 overs a side, left hander Thimodya and former Oakley batter Carpenter dominated the hosts bowling attack in a fine display.
Ventnor’s Sri Lankan all-rounder struck 11 fours and 2 sixes in a 136-ball knock of 122, while Carpenter fell just 8 runs short of a maiden Ventnor ton in a splendid innings of 92 with ten fours from only 115 deliveries as the visitors totalled 253-4.
From a promising 102-2, the bottom of the table home side were eventually dismissed for 191, with Ventnor seam and spin attack of George Watts, Archie Lucy, Dan Cox and Thimodya each taking two wickets as the visitors moved up to fourth place.

Ventnor’s win leaves them 4th in Southern Premier Division 1 with a points average of 14.89.

VENTNOR 2NDS KNOCKED OFF TOP SPOT AFTER DEFEAT
Ventnor 2nd team’s winning run came to an end at Steephill on Saturday after Cadnam won a rain affected Hampshire League Division 2B contest by 5 wickets.
Asked to bat first, Ventnor skipper Ben Davies and Hugh Calloway got their side under way before rain caused a near hour long delay. When played resumed, Calloway went on score an impressive 82 and Davies a season’s best 55 as the hosts posted a total of 199-6 from 45 overs.
Set to score 158 to win from a weather adjusted 29 overs, Cadnam raced to 80-1 (Sah 68), and although Ethan Short took 3-25 for the home team, the New Forest visitors reached their target with two overs to spare.

SNELL HITS 87 IN 3RD TEAM’S LOSS AT NORTHWOOD
Ventnor’s 3rd eleven faced Northwood’s 1st team in Island League Division 1 on Saturday and despite a spirited performance, were defeated by 6 wickets at Park Road.
Rob Snell led the way with fifteen boundaries and a six in an excellent innings of 87, well supported by Sean Turner with 48 (4 fours and 2 sixes) and Charles Andrew (23) as the visitors set a target of 202.
Jackson Parker made an early breakthrough for Ventnor, before George Griffith with 68 and useful contributions down the order secured a victory with 20 balls remaining.

DOBSON HITS A MAIDEN HUNDRED AS 4TH TEAM WIN AT WESTHILL
Ventnor’s 4th team captain Nick Dobson had a day to remember in Saturday’s Island League Division 2 encounter against Shanklin & Godshill II.
Batting at number five after his side lost early wickets, Dobson cracked a splendid maiden century, holding the innings together and finishing unbeaten on 102 in a total of 197-7 from 35 overs.
Dobson then skippered his side to a 35 run win over their old rivals, despite half centuries from Steve Egerton-Read and Max Bushby-Harris.
The redoubtable father and son combination of Ali and Lucas Cotton took 3 wickets a piece for the victors!

3RD MIDWEEK LEAGUE WIN FOR VENTNOR
In the 100 Midweek League, Ventnor convincingly beat Ryde by 72 runs at Steephill.
Kevin Cooper (42) and Ben Fry (27) top scored in the home team’s 152-5 before Toby Noyes and Alfie Toulson each took two wickets as the away side were dismissed for 80.

HURRICANES STAY TOP AFTER LATEST WIN
Ventnor Hurricanes defeated Ryde Rattlers by nine wickets in the Under 15 League at Steephill to maintain their one hundred per cent record.
Chasing the away side’s 79, (Liam Goldsmith 3-5; Alfie Cheesman 2-4), Goldsmith completed a fine all-round performance with 33 and Isaac Borman (30) to record a convincing win inside 10 overs.
