UPDATED: Police are investigating the theft of a safe from a pub in Shanklin during the early hours of Saturday morning – the second safe theft on the Island in the space of a week.
Detectives are making enquiries after two unknown males entered The Village Inn in Shanklin Old Village and made off with the pub’s safe and its contents of around £2500.
No other items were taken during the break-in, which was captured on CCTV.
This latest incident comes after a safe was stolen from The Waverley Pub in Carisbrooke during the early hours of last Saturday morning (7th November), which also involved two assailants and occurred at around the same time of the morning.
Island Echo also understands two shops in Ventnor have been the target of thefts in recent weeks.
Hampshire Constabulary are investigating both incidents and are looking into whether the two are connected.
UPDATE: It has been confirmed that two safes belonging to The Village Inn have been discovered at the Devils Chimney between Shanklin and Ventnor by a member of the public.
Scenes of crime forensic officers attendance the scene on Saturday morning.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Newport CID on 101. Information can be given anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
