A new initiative called ‘The Breakfast Club’, which aims to provide an inclusive and supportive platform for young people to explore positive mental health outcomes, has been launched with the support of Platform One.
The club, for young people aged 11 to 25, has been conceived by Platform One college student Kaira Langan, as part of her Level 7 Masters programme. She is working alongside mum Jenn Langan, a mental health professional based on the Isle of Wight who offers counselling and well-being coaching.
Sessions are designed to support individuals using music as the creative force. No experience is needed and you certainly do not have to play a musical instrument – just a love for music – which unites the soul!
The next session is free and open to all. It will be held at Strings Music Venue, Newport on Monday 20th December. Doors open at 10:30, with special guest Dr Fiona Kennedy of Greenwood Mentors running a 1-hour workshop at 11:00 entitled ‘Assertiveness: getting what you need whilst keeping your relationships and self-esteem’.
The session will include instruction, demos, and role-plays to create a workshop with a small group.
