A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving after a teenager was hit by a car on Fairlee Road in the early hours of this morning (Friday).
Emergency services were called at 00:3 following reports of a collision involving a black Ford Fiesta and a pedestrian.
The pedestrian, a 17-year-old male, sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries and was taken to St Mary’s Hospital for treatment.
The driver of the Ford Fiesta, a 24-year-old man from Newport, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drug driving and causing serious injury by careless driving. He remains in police custody.
Police are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
