A 17-year-old boy has been arrested after a garden-hopping incident in Newport led to the assault of a Police officer.
It was at just gone 16:20 this afternoon (Thursday) that Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary was alerted to a suspicious incident involving a person climbing over the garden fence of an address on Nelson Road, Newport.
Police attended the address and spoke with the occupants.
Then, at around 17:20, an officer was assaulted at the scene. This led to a significant number of additional resources flooding the area.
In total, at least 6 Police cars and a further 4 Police vans responded to the situation, perhaps in response to a ‘red button’ activation, swarming Nelson Road.
Thankfully, the officer was not injured.
It has been confirmed that a 17-year-old boy was arrested in connection with the incident.
Police say they located a Class B drug – cannabis – at the address at the centre of today’s incident.
A teenager climbed over a wall. A Police officer was not injured.
Eight (eight!) patrol units attended.
And we wonder why our Police precept is so high and yet no real crime gets sorted.

These days the Police have to respond to much more complex and dangerous situations. The safety of officers and the public are paramount.
Situations can escalate and I am fed up with people criticising them.
Staff in all of our emergency services put themselves on the front line every day and never know what danger they are going into.
