17-year-old Jake Hall died after losing control of his motorcycle on a bend in Freshwater back in 2023, an inquest has concluded.
His Majesty’s Senior Coroner for the Isle of Wight, Caroline Sumeray, has completed an in-writing inquest into the death of the teenager, who died following a collision on Halletts Shute, at the junction with Pixley Hill, in Norton Green on 23rd June 2023.
As previously reported by Island Echo, emergency services were called at 17:32 to reports of a collision involving a KTM Motorcycle and a Ford Fiesta.
The inquest concluded that Jake was travelling along Halletts Shute when he lost control of his motorcycle on a bend before sliding across the road into a vehicle coming in the other direction.
Such was the severity of the crash, the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA) was called to the scene, however, despite the best efforts of emergency service personnel, Jake – of nearby Solent Hill- was pronounced dead at the scene.
Road closures were put in place for several hours whilst investigators from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary worked to establish the circumstances. The road was reopened the next morning.
A Section 9C inquest listed the cause of death as head and chest injuries.
Coroner Caroline Sumeray concluded that Jake died as a result of a road traffic collision.
Another two and half year delay to conclude a very straighforward inquest. It is a disgrace.
