An 18-year-old man who stole a car and proceeded to drive it whilst drunk – and without a licence or insurance – has been banned from the roads.
Tyler Hetherington, of Sandown Road in Lake, was disqualified from driving and fined when he appeared before Magistrates on Friday and pleaded guilty to 4 offences.
The court heard that Hetherington had unlawfully taken a Vauxhall Corsa on 31st July this year. He then proceeded to drive it without insurance or a licence.
Police stopped the vehicle on Rowborough Lane, near Brading, where Tyler was breathalysed. He later went on to provide a reading of 55 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath – the legal limit being 35.
Magistrates were told that Hetherington has since made good damage caused to the Corsa with its rightful owner.
For the offence of drink driving, Tyler Hetherington was banned from driving for a period of 16 months and fined £138. He was fined a further £138 and banned for 12 months (concurrent) for aggravated vehicle taking. There was no separate penalty for driving without insurance or without a licence, but his record was endorsed.
He was also ordered to pay £85 costs with a £34 surcharge.

Gets drunk, steals a car despite no License or Insurance… Gets caught and loses the License he hasn’t got for 16 months for drink driving whilst the offenses of no Insurance and no License get ignored. Couldn’t make this stuff up!
Can i please have some of whatever these magistrates are smoking, what is the point of having laws when if someone breaks them all they get is a slap on the wrist, the scum was drunk and stole the car, he didn’t have a licence to start with so what the hell good will a ban do.
