A 16-year-old boy from Arreton has been flown to Southampton General Hospital and a second teen is being treated on the Island following a serious road traffic collision in Ryde last night (Sunday).
Emergency services were called to Ryde Esplanade near the junction with The Strand shortly after 22:10 following a collision between a van and a motorcycle, as first reported by Island Echo.
The 16-year-old motorcycle rider from Arreton has sustained a severely broken leg has been transferred to Southampton General Hospital. Meanwhile the 16-year-old pillion passenger from Ventnor – who is said to have been wearing shorts and no helmet – remains in a stable condition at St Mary’s Hospital.
The male driver of the Citroen van was uninjured in the incident, although slightly shaken by the experience.
The road remained closed until 01:00 this morning. Investigations continue.
