An Isle of Wight recipe book, compiled by the Taste of Wight team who produce a guide to food and drink on the Island, has been launched this week.
A launch event hosted by David Brooks, the sales director of Solent Communications who publish the book, was held at Quay Arts, Newport on Tuesday.
David recalled how his business partner Tim Addison suggested they should re-launch Taste of Wight pre Christmas 2013 and work on the book has been ongoing since then.
Any profits from book sales will go to the IW Youth Trust, who provide free advice, counselling, guidance, information and support to young people under 25. Felicity Radak from the IW Youth Trust explained the work of the trust and said that profits from book sales will fund Bite the Wight, an IW Youth Trust initiative that aims to bring families together especially at meal times.
There are 31 recipes in the book spanning 4 categories – From the Sea, Vegetarian, Mains and Sweets. David mentioned you did not need to be a professional chef to tackle any of the recipes, they could easily be created in the kitchen at home.
Recipes in the book have been provided by Island residents, chefs, various eateries and personalities including Alan Titchmarsh, Ellen MacArthur, Mark King (who attended the event) and Rob Da Bank, patron of the IW Youth Trust.

Amongst the recipes are Fish Stew; Tomato and Gruyere Flan; Easy Pizzas; Macaroni Cheese and Garlic Sausage; Flapjacks and Wight Gold Chocolate Cake.
Mark King told us that he came up with his recipe involving chicken and chillies as he does not like to see food waste and this recipe uses all those little bits of chicken that are left after a roast dinner.
