The Isle of Wight Table Tennis Centre at Smallbrook in Ryde hosted the Southern England section of the Table Tennis England Centenary Tournament.
The adult section welcomed teams from Guildford and Worthing. 10 of the Island’s top players participated.
In the Men’s event, Alex Rorke and Scott Lawson narrowly missed going through to the national finals, just losing to a formidable Guildford team 3-2.
In the Ladies event, the Island’s Pat Thorley and Anne Joyce both put in good performances, but were also narrowly beaten by the eventual winners, Worthing.
In the Junior Boys event, the Isle of Wight played host to an excellent Plymouth team, who proved to be too strong for the Islanders. The local lads gave a good account of themselves, and are all continuing to improve considerably as a result of playing in the Island League and regular coaching.
