Police have rushed to the West Wight following the discovery of suspected ordnance on farmland this afternoon (Tuesday).
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that it is currently in attendance off Copse Lane, Freshwater.
Island Echo is told that emergency services – including the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service – have been seen responding towards King’s Manor Farm, which is owned by the Lord Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight.
The potentially explosive discovery was made at just gone 14:30.
It’s thought that Police are now liaising with the Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal team in Portsmouth.
UPDATE @ 19:34 – Bomb disposal experts from Portsmouth have now arrived on scene to assess the situation.
They travelled across the Solent on the 18:00 ferry from Pompey.
It would be nice for feedback on these from the ordinance disposal teams.
Was it real or not? If real a picture for future reference so people can learn this would help as I think last time this happened it was a stick.
I wish they would sort out the Floating Bridge
and save us all a load of money.
