Visitors to the Isle of Wight Steam Railway have enjoyed 2 action packed days at the attraction’s Steam Show – with 2 more days still to go!
Now in its 46th year, this annual event sees a fabulous collection of traction engines, vintage cars, historic motorbikes, military and commercial vehicles descend on Havenstreet station.
In the main arena visitors were enthralled by the giant leaps performed by the Adrenaline Tour quad-bike riders, and loved the high-speed Little Nippers terrier racing. One highlight is the ever-popular ‘traction engine games’ which see these veteran steam vehicles complete in challenges, and even a game of musical chairs.
With live music on the woodland stage, an old-fashioned fairground carousel and the Railway’s Train Story Discovery Centre open to the public, there’s plenty to see during the day.
Trains depart every 30 minutes throughout the day, with the line’s flagship engine W24 ‘Calbourne’ in action throughout the weekend. The railway’s traditional carriages continue to be used to best advantage with families able to reserve a compartment for their exclusive use.

The Island Steam Show takes place throughout the Bank Holiday Weekend, concluding on Monday (30th August).
