The sudden appearance of a sink hole in the middle of the road has led to the emergency closure of a main route in East Cowes today (Monday).
It was shortly before 15:00 this afternoon that Island Roads rushed to close Adelaide Grove when a deep hole was discovered in the carriageway outside the local conveniance store.
Investigations are now underway to determine the cause and facilitate repairs.
As a result, Adelaide Grove is closed to all traffic between its junction with Yarborough Road and its junction with Minevra Road.
Motorists are being diverted via Minerva Road, Clarence Road and Yarborough Road.
Southern Vectis say that their Route 5 buses are diverting via York Avenue in both directions, with stops at Gordon Lodge and Nursery Gardens unable to be served at this time.

I suppose the council are looking into this hole.
Lol. Sinkhole 2ft from the manhole for drainage…. geeee. In wonder what the problem could me.
When does a pothole become a sinkhole? Cos there is a pretty damn deep one down Great Preston Road!
A sinkhole works upwards and a pothole downwards.
What about a shi…no, never mind.
