Members of the public have assisted in efforts to save the life of a man who was collapsed in the street in Ryde this lunchtime (Saturday).
It was around 12:30 that members of the public spotted an individual who had collapsed on the pavement on Swanmore Road, prompting a call to 999 and CPR to commence.
Now, emergency services are on scene with an ambulance crew, a critical care paramedic and an operational commander from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service working to stabilise the patient, with the assistance of Police.
The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has been scrambled from Southampton, touching down at Pell Lane rec in Binstead.
The flying medics are now on scene with the patient.
Swanmore Road has been closed between the junctions with Milligan Road and Radcliffe Avenue.
UPDATE @ 14:03 – Sadly, despite the best efforts of all involved, the man passed away at the scene.
The air ambulance has returned to base at Southampton, with other emergency crews now standing down.
Swanmore Road has now reopened.
