New Wightlink-Wight Mountain Cycle Race Team members Allan Cook, Ewan Cook and Nick Earley joined Adam Holleyman, Ben Johnson and Stu Waite in travelling to the mainland on Sunday to compete in the last round of the Gorrick Brass Monkeys XC Endurance Series at Minley Manor, Yateley.
The course, which boasts such classic sections as ‘Sponge Bob’, ‘Double Dip’ and ‘Back to Front’, is a challenge for the most experienced riders, but the lads managed to put in some fantastic performances on the day.
One of the talented newcomers to the team, 14-year-old Ewan Cook, who had already competed in the earlier rounds, finished in 11th place in the Junior 2 hour race. This was enough to secure him 3rd place in the overall standings; a superb result for his first race in the Wightlink-Wight Mountain CRT colours.
In the Senior 2 hour race, Adam Holleyman finished 13th and Nick Earley, another young newcomer to the team, finished in 26th place.
There was a large field of 90 riders in the Vet 2 hour race, but Stu Waite and Ben Johnson showed their class by finishing in 13th and 25th place respectively.
Allan Cook took on the 3 hour Grand Vet race and finished in mid-field over the challenging course.
