STRONG COMPETITION IN THIS WEEK’S ISLE OF WIGHT TABLE TENNIS ASSOCIATION MATCHES

After 2 matches, 3 Ryde teams tie for first place in the Isle of Wight Table Tennis Association table, although Shanklin Warriors had a good win over one of the leaders, Ryde A, in their match this week.

Division One

Player of the match in their 6-4 victory was Shanklin’s Don Hobbs who won all his singles.

There were many close games in an exciting high quality match with everything resting on the doubles, with Hobbs and team mate Mike Turner getting the better of Ryde’s Lee Orton and Mark Turner in an epic five set match, winning 12-10 in the final set.

Division Three

Just one match was played in Division Three, with the Rookies Cates family unlucky not to gain a draw, but with the Rustics 90 year old Bert Paice on great form and successful in all his matches, and finding the energy to play in the deciding doubles, it was a case of experience over youth winning the day.
