A road sign and a number of bollards were damaged in Shanklin yesterday lunchtime (Wednesday) when a driver stepped on the wrong pedal.
The elderly male driver crashed into the street furniture on the approach to the roundabout junction of Regent Street and Carter Road.
Island Echo understands the accelerator was pressed instead of the brake.
No one was injured in the incident. Police attended the scene.
Island Roads were called out to make the area safe and effect repairs.

Why is this news?
In Shanklin we consider this very average parking.
Meanwhile a few yards along in Regent Street Wightfibre are doing a similar pavement renovation over the rest of the pavement. No-one moans about that.
They (wightfibre) have destroyed the pavement where I live, looks like a bad surgeon has operated while on a ferry in a force 9 storm. Shocking!
Hi, just an observation on the comments generally on IslandEcho.
all comments appear to be “grey” now and are harder to read.
I’ve attempted to put this in bold to make it readable. Am I the only one who this has happened to? I don’t think my eyesight is getting worse than it already is.
On So called “modern” web sites it seems to be the trend that they introduce pastel coloured backgrounds and grey text to “improve” what they look like, I can assure them that there is no improvement.
can it be changed back to easy to read text please?
Thanks for the feedback. Our comments system was updated yesterday, which provides additional options such as formatting and sorting.
Your comments are completely right and as a result we have now made the comment text black, instead of grey. The change wasn’t intentional by the way.
Thanks very much for the reply and the information.
Where is Barnard Castle ?
The elderly should take some type of competence test every 3 years just to make sure they are fit to drive
And the young who cause more accidents than the elderly.
This wasn’t the only damage! He hit my daughters car first, possibly a write off 🙁
