Police are investigating after an 11-year-old girl on her way to school was approached by a stranger this morning (Wednesday).
Police were first alerted to the suspicious incident at around 08:30 this morning (Wednesday) where it was reported that an unidentified man made gestures at an 11-year-old girl on West Street, Newport. The girl in question, was on her way to school Nine Acres Primary School.
In response to the incident, Nine Acres sent a letter to all parents earlier this afternoon. Within the email, Headteacher Miss McDonald, says the school are taking the matter ‘extremely seriously’ and that they are working closely with Police throughout their investigations.
The school went on to reassure parents before offering them advice and tips to ensure their children are safe on the way to school, including encouraging them to speak up if they have encountered any unusual experiences.
Officers from the Neighbourhood Policing Team have been patrolling in the local area this afternoon.
